Salem is 150,000 in scenic valley between coast and mountains. It is the capital city of the state, university town, 16 miles from quality tax-free factory outlet stores( incredible bargain shopping). Lots of wine tasting and touring in area. Parks, fishing, hiking, outdoor recreation of all sorts is near.

In the heart of Willamette Valley wine country, 60 miles to gorgeous sandy beaches, 30 miles to mountains, camping, hiking, wilderness, 40 miles to Portland-upscale arts, dining and entertainment or funky street markets. Nice urban neighborhood, close to all amenities, shops, restaurants, groceries, 10 minutes to downtown Salem, state capitol, shopping, parks and outdoor activities. Spectacular mountain waterfalls are 30 minutes away and wonderful hiking in pristine forests. Salem has many parks with all kinds of facilities and a scenic natural area along the river is 5 minutes from my house with trails, a dog park, kids playground, bike paths and scenic views.

The map marker is a general indicator of the local area only.
Boating/Sailing, Fishing, Golf, Historical Sites, Horse riding, Public Parks/Gardens, Restaurants, Shopping, Sightseeing, Skiing, Tennis, Theme Parks, Walking

There are many golf clubs in the area. We are 5 minutes from Salem Golf Club (open to public) and within 50 miles of probably 25 more golf clubs available to public. Many are very scenic, at the beach or in the mountains.

I am a very soon to be retired high school literature teacher who has had two very successful, year long exchanges to Europe, a summer exchange to France and I am looking for more exchanges around the corner. I would also consider non-consecutive exchanges or hosting people. I love history, arts, folk culture, cuisine for any country. Possibly exchange may include my sister and her retired teacher husband who are world travelers, or perhaps two of my grown children.
