Auckland Auckland

Called City of Sails due to popularity of sailing on the beautiful Waitemata Harbour dotted with many islands. Lovely beaches close to the city and temperate climate. Lots of good restaurants, live theatre and other entertainment including a casino.

Close to the beautiful Waitakere Ranges covered in native forest with many walking and hiking trails. On the other side of the hills are the west coast black sand beaches - great for surfing but not swimming. Also a growing gannet colony during summer months. Historically this area was known for orchards, market gardens and vineyards some of which remain. Heavily settled by people from Croatia in late 19th century.

The map marker is a general indicator of the local area only.

We are both in our early 60s. Linnea is widely travelled and has offered homestay to travellers for many decades, first through Servas and now Couchsurfing and Airbnb. Linnea is a part-time librarian at a university. Her interests are reading (of course!), walking, dance, classical music, volunteer work, travel and languages. Tony has travelled less and is new to involvement in homestay and home exchange but very keen to participate further. He is an avionics engineer and works for Air New Zealand. His interests are his grandchildren, music, anything linked to engineering, aircraft (he used to be an aerobatics pilot) and tinkering in the garage.
