Portsmouth is famous for its historic dockyard containing The Mary Rose museum, HMS Victory, HMS Warrior and submarine museum. Old Portsmouth still has the old sea fortifications of Southsea Castle, The Square Tower and Round Tower with views across the harbour and the Solent to the IOW. Found along the impressive promenade walk there is also famous D Day museum, Fun Fair and Southsea Common. The 'village' of Southsea is full of bars and restaurants with frequent markets. Overlooking all of the city is the Spinnaker Tower situated in the old naval base of Gunwharf Quays, now a very popular designer outlet shopping area with many restaurants, bars, clubs and cinema / entertainment complexes. Portsmouth has very road, rail and ferry links to the South of England, London, Brighton, IOW, France and Spain. There are many golf courses throughout the area.

The map marker is a general indicator of the local area only.

My wife and I are both retired teachers and living on the edge of Portsmouth. I am 61 and my wife recently turned 60. We have 3 grown up children who are currently living and working in Wellington, New Zealand.  We are both keen golfers with membership at a local golf course. We enjoy travelling and often have city breaks around Europe. We also own a caravan, which is stored in Spain, which we try and visit at least twice a year to enjoy the beach and the Spanish culture. We enjoy going into Southsea (a district of Portsmouth) for walks along the promenade and the many restaurants and bars there.
