Our house is easy maintenance (1970s build, but well-established) 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, CH and log fire. Cleaning lady comes for 5 hours on Fridays and ironing lady and gardener on Tuesdays. Bifold doors leading to deck from sitting room and kitchen/dining room. Quite a few heirloom antiques. Modern kitchen, but rest of house traditional decor with squashy sofas and log fire. CH effective quickly. Balcony from master bedroom looks out over meadows and beyond to National Trust Land. Quiet backwater behind bustling and vibrant village main street. Several brilliant places to eat, within walking distance and justified reputation as a venue for good food.

Winchester is the old capital of Wessex and has a beautiful Cathedral, Winchester College and lots of history. Salisbury is equally impressive and is only 14 miles away. Both cities are major tourist destinations.

20 minutes max from Winchester station and under the hour by train to London. (Buy senior rail card for good discounts). 18 miles from Stonehenge, 14 from Salisbury and well-placed for major road networks to the West Country and Midlands. We live in the countryside, with beautiful views, but are not isolated. Stockbridge is well known for its attractive high street and the surrounding villages are filled with chocolate box thatched cottages. There is lots going on locally, for those that want it.

The map marker is a general indicator of the local area only.

James is a retired army officer, who is now involved in microbial contamination in fuel and is self employed. Christine is a retired headmistress and school inspector , who is also self-employed as an educational consultant. We can be fluid about exchange times as long as we have access to decent wifi. We like to travel, enjoy opera and ballet and James is a skier ( bit of a veteran now!) Christine likes warmth! Both like reading, and appreciate good living. Did an exchange about 20 years ago, when our house was trashed by visiting children, so this is our first venture back into considering home exchange.
