The neighbourhood

Dunsborough is a seaside town, a three hour drive from our capital Perth, There is also a long distance bus service and an airport servicing the area. Our town has become a popular tourist area over recent years, so there are a lot of cafes and boutiques amongst the comprehensive group of shops, plus two supermarkets. Most people come for the beaches, surf and to visit the wineries. There are now over 160 wineries, many having won world acclaim. About half of them have good restaurants attached. The south west of Australia is a world biodiversity 'hotspot' meaning we have many species of threatened flora and fauna. The wildflowers in spring are amazing. There is also a world standard golf course and other facilities.

The exchange party

I am Cyndy, a retired teacher, and my husband Ron is a retired agricultural scientist. Since retirement we have become engrossed in quite a few hobbies, many of them environmental in nature. One of our favourite is the whale monitoring which we have done for the last 12 years, as the endangered blue and humpback whales come very close to our part of the coast. We also do surveys of the many local and migratory birds, endangered flora and love walking the trails and pathways along the coast. We also enjoy genealogy, most of our ancestors emigrating from England and Scotland about one hundred and fifty years ago.
